Brive Rocamadour

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Brive-la-Galliarde, France, is known as the “bold”, or “courageous” city. During the second World War, Brive was a headquarters for the French Resistance.

It was also the first occupied French city that liberated itself in the spring of 1944. Brive is currently one of the few ways to get to the french city of Rocamadour. Rocamadour is a remote city with a deep religious heritage. Legend has it that St. Arnadour settled in the city after witnessing the martyrdom of St. Peter and St. Paul, which makes Rocamadour a popular site for religious pilgrimages.

However, in order to access Rocamadour, one generally has to stop a Brive as it is the nearest city with a train station. Rocamadour via Brive La Galliarde makes a perfect vacation itinerary for anyone wanting to view some of Frances most historic sites. From the Shrine of Our Lady of Rocamadour, to the Labenche museum, anyone with an interest in Frech history would be remiss to pass up such sites.
